Brazil

This is much more to Buzios than meets the eye. For those of you who don’t know, Buzios is about 105 miles from Rio de Janeiro and it is famous for its beaches, parties, shops and international food. But as I say, there is a lot about Buzios that most travellers are unaware of. Here are a few things you should look out for while on holiday in Buzios.
Designer shops, great prices
In Buzios you can find the same shops as you will find on the most famous avenues of New York and Paris. The advantage of shopping in this city is that the shops are open until 3 a.m. Bet you didn’t know that!! However, the best news is that new shops and boutiques have been opened recently by young Argentine designers who are just starting off on the famous Rua das Pedras, the main street in Buzios. Here you can find unique designs at even better prices.
Riding the waves
Most tourists (who can afford it) take a catamaran around the islands of the peninsula. I would suggest taking a traineira which is an authentic local fishing boat. Okay it isn’t as glamorous as a catamaran, but it is much cheaper, more personal and you decide the itinerary. Go to the harbour at Praia da Armação beach and you will see the boats leaving. Remember…this is information you can’t get in a tourist guide.
View of Angola
In the far east of Buzios is Ponto da Lagoinha which is a huge view point made out of rocks that are 500 million years old and identical to a point in West Africa. They say that this is the point where America was once joined to Africa and so from here you are looking directly in front of Angola.
Beaches that the locals use
I found out about these beaches from a local friend….everyone knows where to find the most popular beaches. If you want to avoid the crowds, I would recommend you try Praia Azeda and Praia Brava.
International restaurants
Try typical Brazilian food during your stay…this is a must. However, if you fancy Italian, I would recommend Le Streghe on Rua das Pedras 201. You can find lots of international restaurants on this street.
